Homework Task

Numeracy: This week we have been looking at parallel, perpendicular  and diagonal lines. Give a definition for each key word.

The answers will not be posted until everyone has replied.

This task is due to be completed on Friday 9th March. If you cannot access a computer at home, please spend 5 minutes on a school computer to complete this task.

Good luck!

  1. Shakira's homework,

Diagonal line-A straight line inside a shape that goes from one corner to another (but not an edge).
So, if you join two vertices of a polygon which are not already joined by an edge, you get a diagonal.

Perpendicular- It is when 2 lines meet up as a right angle which is always 90 degrees, on a square there is 2 perpendicular lines.

Parallel-When 2 lines are opposite each other and are the same distance apart, if yo carry them on they will never meet, a rectangle has 2 pairs of parallel lines.

  2. 1. parallel= 2 lines that never meet and stay the same length apart.

2.perpendicular= 2 lines that meet at a right angle.

3.diagonal= a line that corner to corner.

  3. Parallel Lines: Two lines that never meet each other and are always oppisite each other.

Perpendicular Lines: Two lines that meet at a right angle.

Diagonal Lines: Lines that join from vertex to vertex but they can not be right by them.

  4. Parallel lines:
lines that are the same distance apart and never meet.
    perpendicular:
Lines that meet at a right angle that is ninty degrees.
    Diagonal lines:
The line joining any vertex or vertices of a polygon is called diagonal line.

PARALLEL LINE:IS WHEN THE LINES DON'T MEET.

pERPENDICULAR LINE:IS WHEN THEY MEET AT 90*.

dIANGANOL LINE:IS WHEN THEY MEET AT THE VERTEX OR VERTERSIES.

  11. parallel is when the lines never meet and they stay same distance apart.

perpendicular is when the lines are at 90 degrees angle.

diagonal is a line joining the opposite corners of a shape together.E.g. square, rectangle.

  12. Definition for perpendicular:

Perpendicular means when 2 lines that meet as a right angle (90 degrees).

    Definition for parallel:

Parallel means when 2 lines are opposite and they will never meet.

    Definition for Diagonal:

Diagonal means when two opposite verticies make a straight line betwwen them.

  13. Paralell lines are when lines are the same distance and never meet.

Perpendicular lines are lines that are at right angles.

Diagonal lines mean a vertex to another vertex oterthan the sides itself.

Parallel:2 lines that never meet, they can be horizontal, vertical and diagonal.
Perpendicular:to lines that meet at a right angle which is 90 degrees, you can show on a shape by putting a square when you see a perpendicular line
Diagonal:2 slanted straight lines, and when finding on a shape you join a vertex (corner) to a corner. (This is my way, did not look it up!)

  15. parallel line:
Two lines on a plane that never meet. They are always the same distance apart.

    perpendiculer:

Lines that are at right angles (90°) to each other.

  16. parallel It means two things going side by side in the same direction.
A line is perpendicular to another if it meets or crosses it at right angles (90°).
A diagonal is a slanted line that goes from vertex to vertex.
