Film Festival

Today we had the very first Redhill Film Festival. We had the opportunity to watch the films made by each year group. We were very impressed with everyone's work!

We really enjoyed showing our own CSI: Redhill to the rest of the school. Everyone had fun watching our video.

Well done to everyone!

Last week of the Spring term!

Well Done Year 5! We are almost at the end of the Spring half term. You have been working hard all term and as a reward we have lots of things to look forward to this week.
On Thursday we will be having our 'Redhill Film Festival.' We will have the opportunity to view the films made by other classes, as well as our own. Our video is entitled 'CSI:Redhill' and is based on our fun CSI week.
On Thursday afternoon we will be watching our annual talent show. I look forward to seeing the performance by some of the children in our class. Good Luck to all the participants!
On Friday we will be having a toy day. You will be allowed to bring in a toy to play with. In the afternoon we will be watching the film 'Atlantis' which links to our Water Worlds Topic.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the week Year 5!

Homework Task

Read through the paragraph below. Improve the paragraph and type it in the comment box. Your homework should be completed for Tuesday. If you cannot access the internet at home, please use the school computers.

As I approached the coral reef, a feeling of niceness swept over me. I had never imagined this under water world would be so nice. I got closer and closer to the nice coral. The reefs looked nice. What a nice sight! I swam on, through the good coral reefs, until I reached a tunnel of rocks. I saw turtles swimming through the current. They were as green as a penguin! I saw crabs walking across the ocean floor. I also saw fish. The fish swam through the nice waves. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw an oyster opening to show a pearl. I swam over and took the pearl out of the oyster. I would treasure it forever as a reminder of my journey. I could not believe how nice the great barrier reef was.

Mythical Writing

Last week, we began reading the myth of the Loch Ness monster. We also watched the DVD version and compared them.

We wrote our own character description of the Loch Ness Monster. Read some examples below!

On Friday, Amina was chosen by her peers as 'Friend of the Week.' Mujahid was chosen as 'Hard Worker of the Week.'

Mujahid was chosen for improving his literacy and numeracy skills over the past few weeks. He has been listening carefully and can follow instructions.

Here are some of the things Amina's friends had to say about her:

She is one in a million
She is very kind and funny
She is good at literacy
She is fantastic at basketball
She makes you laugh

Congratulations to Amina and Mujahid! Keep up the hard work!

Celebration Assembly

On Friday Humza was selected as our hard worker of the week. He was rewarded for his excellent story 'The Pearl Diver' which he has re-written from a different character's point of view. Humza used lots of narrative techniques in his work to produce a very impressive story. I really liked Humza's use of personification and dialogue.

This week Zaynab was chosen as Friend of the Week. Here is what some of her friends have to say about Zaynab:

She is good at maths.
She is always there for you.
She is very funny.
She works hard.

Well done Humza and Zaynab!
